Soho | London
I was introduced to Cookhouse Joe by a fellow book club member, and my oh my, it really is finger lickin’ chicken at it’s finest! I am now quite the regular, going there on average once a month, and each time walking through the door hoping they don’t recognise me, and know my drinks order!
Tucked away on Berwick Street, you could easily walk past, not realising what you are missing! The cuisine is simple – rotisserie chicken, with Lebanese inspired sides (think Tabbouleh, Houmous, Falafel and Halloumi). The second best thing about this place (after the chicken of course) is the price! Wholesome food at bargain prices – it’s one of those where you get the bill and think ‘is that it?!’ – a rare feeling in London town!
If you are a group of four or more I would suggest getting the shared menu *insider tip here – as it’s not actually on the menu*. For £15 each you will get one of each of the sides, and a whole chicken to share – yes a WHOLE chicken! Served family style, all in the middle of the table and away you go! The extra bonus being if you book on a Wednesday… otherwise known as Prosecco Wednesday – Yee ha! When a bottle of Prosecco is just £15! This place just gets better and better!
The decor and atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Mismatched wooden tables & chairs, candle light and food served in metal camping dishes. An open kitchen at the back mean you can see the chicken on the spit, and see the chefs working their magic.
I really cannot recommend this place enough! It is my ‘go to’ place when I have visitors in London as it is so reasonably priced, and after all, who doesn’t like chicken (obvs doesn’t apply to veggies!). The location is perfect – just off Oxford Street, which also leads to endless options of post dinner drinks! Booking might not be necessary at certain times, but I would call ahead just incase – better to be safe than sorry! All contact details can be found on their website here.
